Well the SR motor in my '91 has begun its wait on death row, it's going through 1qt of oil every 1500 miles. 95% sure it's the rings, no external leaks , pcv and such changed. I bought it from a 'friend' in Sept, seems to have been burning it since the purchase. He had 100-125 NOS and told me about a recent NOS backfire said he hadn't notice any problems , my guess is some ring or ring land damage. My previous '91(totalled) ran repeatable 7.7 sec 0-60 with only intake and muffler. This one has I/E/H/C and I am having trouble breaking 9.0s messed around with timing but to no avail. Weird thing is compression shows good all in the 155-165 range. I was wanting a turbo but this surely isn't wise with recent oil consmuption. I have spare block and such. SOKO has dets for 1400 but too much. they have the Primera 10to1 SR20 for 600. Called JWT looks like about 1100 for 11to1 bottom end with piston coolers. I can build a 10to1 bottom end with NISMO pistons for less than 600, any one have a 10to1 will stock computer handle fuel on it or will I need JWT ECU, I would need one with DET or 11to1 I know , Just trying to get running decent with as small $ as I can .

Well, last year I got two SR20s for under $500 from KWC in cali. (www.kwcengine.com). Now, I know not too many people like KWC, but I've had very good experiences with there engines. One of the engines I got was even the newer style SR20 (roller rockers). It is in very good shape. BUT, don't just go there because I say it's good. Shop around. I'm sure there's someone else out there that has one for less than $600. As far as the ECU goes, I can think of 4 SE-Rs running the JDM 10:1 motors with no problems. 11:1, yea, you'll need the JWT ECU. 10:1, no, you can use your stocker.
