Who here has a car that didn't come with a sr20?

I have a 87 sentra B12 with a sr20de in it. I did it back in 1994 & the car runs great. I think I was the first person to do this swap, which is cool!

Did you gut a Classic for the motor? If so, did you happen to sell the Classic's seats to someone in Canada?

I can't imagine that too many people have done that swap, although 1994? Hmm, I think this guy did it last year.

I messed up again: his SE-R was normally aspirated, too, running high 13.8s, low 13.9s...

Yup 1994. I just bought the motor & the parts needed to complete the swap.

SPNX, I think you are talking about Charles Johnson of sentra.net. He started this swap last year & is almost finished. There is another guy in FL that finished his car last week. he can't take his hands off the wheel.

I'm sad to say that my car is no longer in America. I sent it to Barbados in 1996 (to be a rally car). However, I have another B12 in the US but it doesn't have the sr20de in it. Instead I put the CA18det. It runs good but I i'm going to swap in this month. I'm putting in a sr20det or a sr20ve(which i'll turbocharge).

I would like to know the answer to that question also. The place where I buy my engine has a shop in japan. If they can find a crashed Primera they will sent the engine right over to me.

Most likly I am going to do the sr20det(GTi-R) swap. It will probably be cheaper & i'll get more hp's stock. It would be nice having a Nissan vtec under the B12 hood.

It's all the same thing man! Only Nissan cams move over not under(I think). Either way it's cool!

I hate Honda's/Acura's like the next guy, but the vtec is a cool idea (from Honda). So the VVL should be 3times better(because a real car company makes it)!

I just got news from sentra.net the the silvia is coming to America next year. Hey Subculture, that has a vvl(turbo)!

God will have his way with all of you for using such slanderous, foul words as "VTEC" in this forum (oh, no, I used it too, I MUST REPENT! FORGIVE ME!!!)!!!!

OK, I forgive you.

Anyways, the VVL and the original, unmentionable system are really well designed. You know how our stock cams (98-99) are weak overall. The JWT cams kick ass above 4500, are are pretty good above 2600. But below that they aren't smooth at idle or while cruising at 2000-2400rpm. These systems give smooth economic low rpm performance and high-powered upper rpm performance. Of course, if you only have 1.6L, you are going to get your ass kicked until you hit the high cams. And if you against a modded SR20DE your high cams are futile. Sorry, stupid Civic SI owner (my friend immediately dismissed me when I said I could take his stock SI. He didn't even think twice. He is now educated :) )

Just combine our stock (well, lets use a 92 intake cam) cams below 4000rpm with the wolf cams above 4000rpm. Wouldn't that be sweet! hellooooooo VVL.
I wonder if the VVL technology helps Nissan with emissions? We've all seen the 7500rpm limit go to 7100 (boo, hiss) and now 6600 in the 2000 SEntra.

BTW, the lopey idle of the JWT cams is not bad at all, my tach needle barely moves at idle, and I'm not complaining about it.

Mainly because the won't pass US emission standards. Particulary cold starts.:( It would be great if VVL could as VVL motors have a much flatter torque response than the "other" guys.
Hopefully the techs at Nissan will work this out soon.

I'd like to turn my 91 GXE into a GXE-R. How easy is it to drop in a SR20DE and does it matter what car (or year) it comes out of?
Can I use my OE GXE manual transmission?

actually about the vvl, I do not think we will get it b/c emissions and Nissan has confirmend that we will get the se-r back in 2002 and possibly with a 250 hp supercharged engine w/ a six speed tranny.
