I came across this website - www.j-formula3.com
Look under team and driver and you will find that a team named ThreeBond Racing is running two cars with SR20VE's tuned by Tomei. Pretty interesting knowing that Tomei has been working on the VE.

I think those have no low rpm lobe. Not sure though. I know some of the turing cars use the VE casting with no low rpm lobe capablity.

so it would be a two stage cam instead of three, smells like honda :rolleyes:

No it would be like a 1 stage cam. No bottom lobes at all. VVL is not needed for a true race engine. The added mass in the drivetrain hinders the high rpm capability of the engine.
