Hey Bubba - I've looked at your site, and appreciate the info it provides. How much (roughly) did you spend on your VE swap? Just on the ECU upgrade/engine/etc.

Also, did you look into just importing the "head", or is a complete swap the only way to go?

Bman - curious about the NA route...

Ouch! 5 grand? But it was a "drop in" situation I suppose(or hope).

Who did you talk to at JUN, and did you ever talk about importing just the head and doing the necc engine mods?

Enquiring mind(s)? want to know....

I spent $5K for the motor harness and computer (shipping included). The motor was emaculate - no more than 5-10,000 miles on it. The ecu was tuned by JWT for free.

If i were you I'd import the head if you can. It will be cheaper.

There are some ways to get more than 190hp from this motor if you want to go NA.

It was definitely a "drop in" but as in the SR20DE to SR20DET the bitch is in the details (wiring).

I don't want to recommend somebody at JUN as I have found them to be evasive and a bit nebulous.

I never spoke to JUN about getting just the head. I think Speedlab could look around for you. Some of engine importers may also be a good start (SOKO, Perez, etc).

I've been dealing with JWT on the Turbo/other mods that are going on now.

I think a lot of people expect way too much from this motor w/a turbo. But if you really want to go full on NA, its a great route. I could easily see 220-240hp with the proper mods.

To get in that hp range though, I can't stress this enough, you have to be SERIOUS. This is not a low buck option. If you want to spend $10 on your car, get an air freshener. If you want to at least get in the rearview mirror of the Skunkworks Integra you have to step up.

If you just want the VE head plopped on your DE block I don't think its worth it. There are other options that will get you the same power. The JWT cams alone would get you most if not all the way. The VE is a great foundation to START with.

I hope you don't think that some of my remarks re:$$ were directed at you. Its just that I get frustrated by the fact that only a few SR20 fanatics have stepped up and the rest sit back with a nickel and dime attitude and bitch about Hondas.

2 indisputable Honda facts

1)Honda enthusiasts are a larger population than Nissan enthusiasts in the U.S.

2)In that bigger group there are more people willing to spend the cash or do the work.

Simple logic would point to the U.S./Honda/dominant outcome, but it is still frustrating to observe while listening to everyone piss and moan.

Sorry for the stupid commentary. I'll shut up now.

No problem - I didn't take any comments personally.

It would be nice to have the aftermarket support and overall numbers that the Honda crowd enjoys, but I like being unique. I don't intend to "step up to the plate" with my SE - it is our "family" car. Just mods that improve performance/reliability without sacrificing safety/durability.

I HAVE been eying the local used 240SX market though, and a DET (or possibly "VET") IS part of the plan. I have a friend locally who is transplanting the SOHC turbo from an 87' 300ZX into his 240 - look out! 300hp with no major upgrades! More food for thought, and another unique ride, just like yours..... :)

I was thinking about doing the SR20VE swap also... but was just having trouble finding the thing... plus have a bunch of questions about the swap too... like wiring, dropping the motor in, emissions... but would rather do the VE swap over the DET... u know... be innovative... hehe e-mail me bro...

Sorry to dig up an OLD thread, but I was wondering if this statement is true. I was contemplating the cams vs. VE head option.

honestly man, in the long run the VE head is the better option. THe head flows greatly better than standard DE head and the cam switching is bad ass.
