i was having a problem with my oil being really thick and black. im using mobile one synthetic and i just put it in not too long ago. ne ways i was thinkin about flushing it by running some random cheap oil for a week and then goin back to the synthetic. then someone told me that you cant go back to regular oil after you start using synthetic. is that true or should my idea work with the cheap stuff for a week?

That 'someone' is wrong. If that were true there wouldn't be any 'synthetic blend' oils (a combination of synthetic and dyno)
i used synthetic after using carp oil for a break in.....i now use a synthetic blend....Mobil 1 synthetic blend
according to Andreas Miko, that is complete and udder bullshit. he says that you can use any, or, or any combination of them. i have done it without problems.
mobile one sucks.....amsoil is the **** ......just my .02
awsome... thanks for the help. ohh will i thought i was the only person who said "udder" bullshit..... mmmmmmmmmmmm

based on.............................amsoil marketing literature?
^^^No kidding. We've had this conversation though. ;)
When you say that your oil is thick and black, do you mean that it turn thick and black right after you change your oil? Also, how many miles on the engine itself?
i have some interesting facts i know a local drag racer who runs in ihra ricky smith is his name.they dynoed with different oils and picked up 25 horsepower with one oil and lost a few with others i mean they are running 2500hp motors on our scale it would probaly be like a half hp are something but i thought it was pretty cool anyway.i heard u can pick up small gains when using synthetic is this true?
Hot Rod picked up impressive power gains on a pretty hefty V8 by switching to royal purple's fluids awhile back.
very true, synthetics are far superior to dino oil and in our small applications we can get from 1-almost 5hp cause friction is a hell of a thing

If this problem developed from switching to synthetic and was never the case before, then the answer is because synthetic has detergent like characteristics which cleans out all the gum and carbon build-up deposited by the years of using cheap oil. If you really want to clean out your engine, you can use the Mobil 1 drive clean oil, or else you can just continue using synthetic.

The amount of hp gain depends on going from what oil to what. Going from 10w40 to 5w30 Mobil 1 synthetic can often gain you anywhere from 3-6hp but it also depends on the condition of the oil you're changing out. Going from 10w30 to 0w30 won't gain you much because their thickness is the same at operating temperatures although 0w30 provides better protection for cold starts. If you want power, go for the new 0w20 Mobil 1 syn. I know people will say the manual suggest using 5w30, but that's only because 5w30 was the most economical low viscosity formula offered at the time of publication. Later 0w30 became common and now very recently another breakthrough from Mobil 1. Your car might eat a little more oil which shouldn't be a problem That will be the next oil my car's going to see.
oh i just like being different from you guys, dont murder me please...
The fact that the oil is turning black fast just shows that the Mobil 1 is cleaning the engine. Instead of clinging to the walls it is now suspended in the oil. It has to go someplace. I used a engine flush on a 1.6 once. Never hurt it and seemed to clean it out a little. No big deal really. My brother bought the car and it still is going strong 50K latter.
when i first switched to a syn blend, my first 3 oil changes were as discribed, black and thick looking. after those 3 oil changes my oil looks pretty darn good. i just firgured that it was cleaning and flushing all the built up carbon and dino gunk that was chilling in there....

i still can't personally justify full synthetic.... but i keep getting more interested the more i read about the fully synthetic (no synthetics with a dino base)

but i'm poor and in college and that's more cheddar out of my pocket.... :(

You have no idea how funny that is......

As far as switching back and forth. It's no problem, I believe it was years ago when synthetic was just coming on the market. Those didn't blend well or at all, the new stuff doens't matter.
ohh will i thought i was the only person who said "udder" bullshit
You say "utter bullshit". Why you write "udder" (bovine mammary glands) is utterly beyond me...
