Hey All... I need some advice. I have a 91 SE-R with 186k miles on it(I just bought it a month ago). In the a.m. I get a brief(less than 1 second)tapping noise. I don't get the noise any other time of the day, just after an overnight sit. The engine doesn't use any oil( at least so far, I've put 1400 miles on it since the last oil change[Mobil 1]), it took 3.5 quarts on the last change, it revs nicely to redline. I've read that these engines have hydralic valve adjusters, do these tend to leak down? What about main, or rod bearings? Mains would be a pain, but rods can probably be done with the engine in the car, correct? Does anybody have a similar problem? Should I be looking for a JDM motor? I'd prefer if somebody knew? Talk to me... my email is [email protected] Thanks!!!!

I belive you are just getting start up clatter. Mine started doing the same thing after I changed my clutch. It is very common with the sr20de and not to be of much consern.
