I traded in my 99 SE L about a month ago. It was real clean, red, 1 sticker, no graphics...nothin'.

So I go to the dealership for my complimentary 1st oil change, and see my car is still siting there, so I go over to it.

OMG! They put gray AND black pinstriping on it, they put that black door molding trim and put it on ALL of the door sills, and then slapped a white dealer sticker on the back!!! AAHHHH!

To top it off, they are asking $14,999 for it with 47,900 miles! Buyer beware! (or at least have them take off the graphics and drop the price!

I second that!

What was your reasoning for the switch off from the Sentra to the Focus?

Well, I had tons of problems with my Sentra. From the throwout bearing in the clutch going at 7000, main axle seal going at 13K, EGR valve needing to be replaced at 45K, weather stripping replaced 3 times, and so on and so fourth. I had LOTS of problems with it.

In all honesty, I never thought I would buy a domestic car, let alone a Focus. However, I drove one, and really liked it. My roommate at college had (still has) one, and he has it all done up (intake, header, exhaust, chip, UDP) and it is pretty quick.

I really like my Focus. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinions though...

It is at Soeren's Ford. Well, I beat a 300ZX at the autocross! :p I think you beat me though. I took 7th you took 4th I think. (novice auto-x at Miller Park on Labor Day)

I know which guy you are talking about with the Focus. You should have beaten him: he has intake, exhaust and springs...

Hey, I am not bashing the Sentra - I really liked it. However, it was the next thing to a lemon.

You should have waited until at least they came out with the SVT Focus...oh but then you coulda gotten SER Vspec if you waited that long.

I've driven Focus SE 4 door and the car was crap to put it best. High speed(80mph) felt dangerous and engine was weak(not zetec..) But anyway, Focus is ok. SCC project Focus is making comparable HP toSR0de. Oh well I'm just ranting...never mind me.

If I could have afforded a SVT, I would have waited, ditto with the SpecV. However, for the money, this was the best bang for the buck.

Think what you want, and have your own opinion. I like my car, I liked my Sentra, but it was a lemon.

This has nothing to do with the subject!

WTF. Dude, I have to say that I rented a Focus and it sucked big time. The trunk release is on the dash, the rear window wiper and front windshield wiper are in a awkward position, the egeronomics were aweful, and the motor, the motor sounded and felt like my sisters 87 Escort. I don't know what kind of problems you had with the 99 Sentra, but I have had my share of problems with the NX and a 2001 Focus will never feel like my 91 NX. And I have been to hell and back like you will never believe. Don't believe me well lets start with...a cracked tranny with 5th gear pop out, blown motor, written off twice on less than a year from accidents (the first I was sideswiped by a tractor trailer and hit sideways) and it is in 10 times better shape that a lot of cars out there. (actually you will never know it was hit, the advantages of having family in the bodyshop business
.) So the little problems were not good enough reasons to sell it IMHO.
I also have a 97 Maxima that I had to go thru the ringer with the dealer about a rear brake issue. Didn't buy a Taurus because of it either. Yuccch!

oh dear...how could you go from a nissan to a focus??? I have driven those cars and besides there stupid look and horrible interior that feels about as cheap as a sephia, there slow and just plain stupid looking....you should have gotten another sentra se or waited a bit for the v-spec...bad choice dude, that car is going to be about as reliable in the long run as a blind man working on a construction site...oy.

Unreliable??? How much more unreliable could it be compared to my Sentra? It was in the shop every three months for two years, and I am not kidding! Even with a new battery, it didn't start well in the cold.

The Focus has only been in the US for two years...how do you know what the long term reliability is going to be? You can't judge a car's reliablity just by your experience. I did my research when I bought my Sentra. Everyone I talked to said that the Sentra was a very reliable car. And for most, it probably is. However, there are exceptions. I know people with Escorts that have 200K on them and they still run great...

Cheap interior??? My Sentra's passengers side airbag cover never sat flush with the dash. The weather stripping had to be replaced 3 times! The drivers seat upolstery was falling apart too...

As far as overall quality, the front and rear bumpers weren't aligned properly, the front and rear bumper paint was fading, the paint was flaking off on the door, and the dealer woudn't cover it, and so on and so fourth.

I realize that I am the exception to the Nissan rule. Most people I know never have any qualms or problems with thier Sentras, but mine was a non-stop problem.

As far as buying a new SE, I don't like the looks.

For the money the Focus was the best bang for the buck.

As mentoined, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

Also, as mentioned before, I love my Focus, and it has been a reliable car and decent performing car thus far. It least my throwout bearing hasn't gone yet (as it did in my Sentra at 7K).

This is a circular debate anyways. I shouldn't have even brought it up...This is a Sentra board, so of course people are going to like their cars better than anything else. The same is true on the Focus boards. I just hope you all have better luck with your Sentra than I did.

Hehe, don't sweat it man, your first post was okay. I feel bad everyone is bashing your new car. Get it to where you can smoke other sr20's then let 'em bash you. But seriously, as long as you enjoy your car it doesn't matter.

I would like to know the same thing! However, why do any cars have lots of problems? Just flukes I guess. I know of people buying Mercedes or BMWs that are constantly in the shop. I guess it just vaires.

I always had it serviced at the dealer (maybe that was the problem
), and never beat the car; it was always well taken care of. Just luck of the draw I guess.

The Focus ZX3 is a good car, I test drove one, BUT. The only one that I myself would purchase is the upcoming SVT Focus, man, talk about a quick ford 4-banger.
