I would like to ditch my 16's for some more tire on the road and a smoother ride with less wandering... what sizes can we run in a B13? is 225/50/15 a viable option? It looks like a lot of tires come in that size and I would like to get some sidewall... I am thinking on a Kosei K1 15x7... what's the correct offset to run with these wheels?

Thanks for the help!

i dont know if you can fit a 225 tire in the back. I have the 15" 200sx rims, and with a 205 tire, its very close to touching the strut. if you get a different offset for those rims, you may be able to fit the 225 tires, but the wheel will stick out past the fender.

215-45-15 on a 15X7 with a +35 offset is the largest you can run without rolling. No rubbing, either.

It's a somewhat unusual size, but Toyo makes tires in that size.

You could also go 205-50-15, but I don't believe that 225s will fit without some major reworking of the fenders.

Someone with a NX2000 is running around with 15X7, 35mm offset wheels with 215/45/15 T1-S tires.

Otherwise get some 195/50/15 tires on those rims. I think 205/50/15 will work, but they are a little taller and therefore taller gearing than the 195s.

What Matt said.

195/50/15s will behave quite nicely, compared to 205s (I've had both on my '93).

My Rotas are 15x6.5, but with 40mm backspacing. I have about 3mm clearance between the tire and strut body.

I'm that NX2000 with the 215-45-15s that's been running around

Fits perfectly, less than 1% change from the original rolling diameter.

To be honest I would actually enjoy taller gearing, but Im afraid of the rear, there's just no room back there, even with the stock rims and tires, it's sickening! I want at *least* 205's... Im running 205/45/16s right now, and traction blows (granted, they're cheap tires)

Change your tires. Seriously - they make such a huge difference.

Going from long wear, low grip Nitto 450s to Potenza RE730s changed the personality of my car. The stiffer sidewalls made turn-in sharper, and the stickier compound drastically increased the limits of noise and adhesion.

I run 15x6.5 rims and 195/50 tires, which is plenty of rubber for a street-driven Classic, provided you have a decent set of tires.

well, there was a time when my 195/55/14 AVS intermediates did the job nicely, that time passed a while back, need more tire =(

JimR is right on the money: It's ALL about tire compound, not tire size.

I had some crappy Nitto 450s for about 3 months, and couldn't understand why my car was a push-mobile. They were crappy, no-grip tires. That's why.

Now, with my Bridgestone RE71s, the car behaves much better. Like...night and day, compared to the Nittos.

Tire choice did it.

In THAT case, stuff the biggest tire you can find under the front end and pray for the best

Also...don't be surprised when NA and nitrous guys take off on you in 1st and 2nd gears. You'll reel 'em in, but tirespin will soon be your biggest concern.

brian....

***i've also ran the toyo 215/45/15 on my 92 se-r. this is really a great tire ....expensive though....lots of traction, not to noisy, great rain traction, and great predictability in the rain (rain in the northwest, what's that??). i can't remember my offset of the wheel, but i did not need to roll fenders, there was no rubbing at all front or back.

***i've also test fitted a 225/50/15 on my 92....it's a no go, plus the way it looks, nevermind, don't ask, it's that bad. whenever you crank the wheel, the tire would rub on the inner fender, and that was when it was parked, imagine at speed....scary!

***another option to check out, is that dunlop makes a 215/50/15, it's a sp sport 9000, probably about 170.00 a tire, ouch! if you're interested you should call bob brown tire. the only one i know of is on 122nd and sandy blvd. in portland. i'm 99% sure they still carry dunlop tires.

***or if you're REALLY bored, i can put my studded wheels on my car, and we can put my 225/40/16 on your car, then you can see first hand if they rub or not, if they don't, then you can test drive them. of course this means you have to give me a ride as well...LOL!! ...hey it's your own fault, you drive a 12 second car! :)

....anyways let me know if you're interested, it would be a good test to try out for the b13 crowd.

later,
bryan...can only do a 14.1 :-(

Sorry spnx. I remember at least one thread, but couldn't remember your screen name. My memory blows. Must have been all the drinking and partying in college

FYI Tirerack as Bridgestone Pilot S0-3 Pole Position tires in 195/50/15 on unadvertised sale for $87 a piece. That is a great deal on a max performance tire.
