So, I was listening to Car Talk on NPR a Saturday or two ago. As we all know these guys have MIT degrees, have been working on cars forever, and are funny as hell. Anyway, there was a caller who had some manual tranny questions, and I forget the exact circumstance, but the boys basically told her that to rest your hand on the shift knob between shifts was in effect pushing the tranny against itself and beating on the syncros.

I DO NOT remember what kind of vehicle was in question. Has anyone ever heard of this? Just curious, since I have NEVER come across a reference to this EVER.

TIA

That's right. Any pressure on the shifter is not good for your trans. Put the other hand on your gurl when you arn't shiftin. imho
