It's been laying around since I took it apart nearly two months ago. I got
the innards back together tonight but still can't really see where this
goes. It looks similar to one of the three sprung "bits" that fit in the top
gear on the input shaft shaft. I had accidentally pulled off the fork for
that shaft like twice, but had successfully reinserted the "bits." Those
were solid too, whereas this one is hollow. The other forks don't seem to
have any of these pieces.

Uhh, well from the picture (which isn't too clear) they look like the "dogs" (I believe the correct name is shift inserts, but my memory is a but fuzzy). They're part of the synchro assembly. Have fun

Yeah I said it looked like one, but there is only one. Someone on the SE-R list said it looked like a "shift fork cap" or something like that. Since I only have one I think that may be what it is...

I don't know... it really looks like an insert. Check you FSM and check if you can identify it.

LOL! Cool, if no one looks it up in their FSM by the time I get home tonight, I'll look it up and post what I find.

Ok I was just at home looking at the thing and the semicircular forks didn't seem to have anything like this on them. Where exactly does it go?
