I wish that I could claim single ownership but I cannot. I can say this, however:

North Alabama doesn't see much culture so most of the vehicles here are mainstream. I saw the SE-R debut in car ads such as this one:

and I thought, "I've GOT to get me one o' deez!!"

Well, Huntsville didn't have any at all. I saw a few on the roads and zero in the paper. FINALLY in 1996 there was an ad in the paper for a used Black 92 with only 26000 miles and I was like, "I've got to see this to believe it..."

Well, there she was, a true beauty. The people that owned her for the past 4 years were very old and said that it was too small for them. This car was pristine! I snatched it up for a cool 10 grand and have had the best commutes of my life!

This car really does pick on cars twice her size...

=-( Unfortunatly I have only had mine for 4 months. My sister, on the other hand, has had her 92 SE from the get-go. She has only had to replace the clutch. Its got 146,000 miles on it. She loves it but is going to sell it in a year to get the I30. If the price is right Im going to get it and see about a DET.
As for the SE-R, I have always wanted one since they came out. I had never driven one or even read reviews on it' but I just knew I had to have one. Plus, its faster than my sisters'. =-P

I bought a used 91 in 92 from a dealer and then went back and bought the last new one in the state in late 94. Everyone remember the "Oh it's you bob" commercials? Same color and everything, accept the new one being a low port and I got an air bag in this one. 93k miles, pulling harder than ever. The guy at the dealership who sold me both of them also had one at time time but has since moved to other cars including a 300XZ and a new Maxima. Now whenever I see him he half jokingly says "Hey, Want to trade in your SE-R??" He would pick it up in a second for himself. He always says, " I wish I still had mine!"

Hold on to em guys! People who know, KNOW.

Bought my '93 in June of 1993 at Andy Ryan Nissan in Winchester, KY. Had read all the Car and Driver stories, had to find a solution for my '91 Camaro RS, one with the 305 motor in it.
I was going freelance (I was a magazine/editorial photographer), and needed something that gave better gas mileage than the Camaro.
Did some research on the SE-R, went to Ryan Nissan on a Friday. Test drove it, fell in love with it. Asked the owner of the dealership himself exactly what he wanted, rock-bottom price. I had the invoice details in front of me, just to let him know.
He came back and said, "How's $700 over invoice sound?" I said, "Done deal." One hour total time from test drive through done deal.
I really wanted to modify her the next few years, but couldn't, as my livelihood depended on the SE-R. She did just fine, racking up 140,000 miles in 4 years.
We've been all over the midwest/southeast together, we've been off-road a few times, and we've been in some great stop-light grand prix races with more expensive cars. We've been to flood disaster sites, NCAA tournaments, and just about everywhere inbetween. Only replaced a fuel pump, at 108,000 miles.
After starting my own publishing company in 1998, I leased another car, and it was time for the SE-R to have some fun. Suspension, nitrous, etc. went in, and we've been having too much fun together ever since.
The SE-R just keeps on taking all the abuse I dish out to her, and still drives home from the track every single time, without so much as a hiccup. She can get cranky, but I know how to cure that.
I have the 'Picks on Cars Twice Its Size' ad, framed and hanging across the room from me.
I also have the original window sticker ($14,870) and all original documents, in a nice folder, well preserved.

Of the 149,000 miles on the odometer, I have driven them all but about 400.

The finest car I've ever owned, and one that I will never part with. Too much emotional involvement, not to mention the financial aspect of it, as well.

I've had my 94 Classic since new (2 miles, I think). It now has 143K on it.

I first was made aware of the SE-R when reading the various reviews and praise in Car & Driver. I finally got around to driving the car a few months and later bought one, just after they went out of production...

I plan to keep this for a while, but do have some major body repairs and performance upgrades planned...

I'm the original owner of my '92 SE-R. It's hard to believe that I was just looking for basic transportation at the time. I only had a motorcycle at the time and anything that would keep me out of the elements would be fine.
After test driving every entry-level car from A to Z, Nissan's Sentra really stood out. I initially tested the E model, which was quite a spunky little car, but really spartan. Lucky for me there were two SE-R's parked next to the E, GXE, and SE Sentras. A black SE-R with no options except A/C and a loaded aztec red one.
It was then that I recalled reading several articles in various automotive magazines about the SE-R. Car and Driver choose it in 1991 (and 92,93,94) as one of their Ten Best cars of the year. Automobile, Road & Track, just about everyone who reviewed it, raved about it. I had to see what all the hoopla was about.
One drive in the SE-R was all it took. I was trying desperately to hide my grin from the salesman. No way was I going to settle for anything else! The next day I drove that loaded 1992 azted red Sentra SE-R home. I haven't had to hide my grin anymore

I'm not the original owner of my 92 SE-R, but I do know who it was.

His name was Eric Rankin. He was an Ensign in the US Navy and he bought it sometime before Aug 1992. Eric put approximately 60k miles on this car after he bought it from Warranty Nissan in State College PA. Eric kept the car until Dec 1999 which by then he was a Lieutenant Commander. He had driven this car all that time and at all of his duty stations, the two I know about were Guam and Port Quineme (sp) CA. So some of the aluminum pieces show some salt corrosion. Anyone know a good way to clean that up?
Eric sold the car to a George Dietz a college professor who lived in Encintas CA. George put about 11k miles on it. He bought a 2000 Corvette and sold me the SE-R with 71k miles for $4,750. The car looks like it just came off the show room floor and I've kept up that tradition of maintenance. The reason I know all this is because of the records that came with the car. Oil Change receipts every 3k miles the first one being 10/14/92 with 3,358 miles on it. The only difference is now it gets Mobil 1.
It also came with the original brochure for the 1992 Nissan Sentra which is in great shape by the way. Maybe I should scan it and make it available to everyone.

So anyway as the third and last owner this car will ever have. I take my hat off to the venerable Nissan Sentra SE-R.

The Sentra Blues thread gave the idea to post this topic to see just who has owned their Classic since it was new.

How many original owners are out there and still own it?

It will be 10 years this year Since I bought mine and never has a car pleased me so well...

Tell us about your Classic!

Thanks....

Bought my '94 sight unseen based entirely on Car & Driver reviews. I kept noticing they compared nearly every small car to it- "..engine not as smooth as, say, the Nissan SE-R.." and so on. I picked it up on a Friday evening and got my first speeding ticket within 3 hours- 68 in a 35. Since then I've racked up 178,000 trouble-free miles. I sincerely love the car- most people don't understand. I have a 2000 GMC truck but still drive the SE-R everyday to work. I can honestly say I will never sell it- it would be sort of like selling a loyal pet dog or something. I still look forward to driving it and generally find myself glancing over my shoulder when I walk away from it in the parking lot.

Here goes:

I had a black '91 SE-R until just this past weekend. I was the third owner, but within the family. My uncle bought it new in '91, and I remember him taking a bunch of us for a ride in it. I remember him saying "It's not nearly as fast with 5 people in the car!" And I remember clearly that it felt pretty cool, but this was before I really cared much about cars. Years passed, and in '97 I returned from living in Europe with my family. This was when my uncle was all successful and was about to purchase an E36 M3. My dad bought the SE-R with 40,000 miles on it for $3000. He drove it until January of 2000, when I bought it from him for $500 with 75,000 miles on it. It had been garaged for the majority of its life and at Salt Fest 2001 that didn't go unnoticed. Unfortunately for me, I moved into the city where caring for a car is much more difficult. I dealt with numerous dings and close calls, as well as a more-or-less devastating theft causing over $2000 in damage.

So- I no longer have this car. I sold it to a good friend of mine in NY who is now perhaps the newest member of SERCA.
As a replacement, I picked up another SE-R- this time a white '91 with 95,000 miles from a 2nd owner for $4300. I continue down the SR20DE path...

Can such a long-lasting, bang for your buck, solidly built car be made again by any manufacterer?

Well my car started life as a 92'XE, I'm the 2nd owner and I have had "her" since early 95'. I did the "heart" transplant in early 99' and since then I have put about 10,000 miles on the Primera(new heart). I used to drive a 64'T-Bird with the 390 and that car moved, I wanted to stay with the power the V8's have but fell in **love** with the little econo-box..nothing like being the underdog at the strip

Got my '92 Classic 9 years ago (April 1992) with less than 100 miles on it. Paid exactly $12,000 for it (sticker was around $14k) At the time I had a '90 Isuzu Amigo - fun truck but a real piece of sh%t quality wise and only a 94hp motor. With the low-income job I was working and trying to pay bills and still be able to eat, my new car jones was going to have to be fulfilled with something inexpensive. It came down to a Ford Escort GT and the SE-R. Thanks God I didn't get the GT. What made the decision was the motor-mouse seat belts on the Ford and the LSD on the SE-R. The local Nissan dealer really didn't know what they had. They only had two on their lot, I went with Aztek Red over White. Did the typical salesman bullsh#t dealing, then I told him what his invoice price was and asked him how much we wanted to make on the deal. This was back when you could first get invoice prices via fax and mail (Internet? What's the internet?) He ran to his manager all flustered (he was in his late 50's and had been in the sales game a long time, I was 25). The sales manager came back and told me he wanted to make $500 on the deal. We did the deal for $12,000 and I drove out that evening. Over 9 years and 108k later, I still love the car and will probably keep it forever. Even though I could afford something new (my wife has even encouraged me to think about it), I plan on teaching my 4 year old son and 18 month old daughter how to drive in it, and then how to autocross in it!

I bought mine brand new!!! It was the shinny red one on the sales floor...I drove it HARD for one year looking for every Mustank I could find! I lost a few but the ones I beat were shocked! I put about 14,500 smiles on it when I decided that this car is special. Now, 10 years later, and a whole bunch of money, I have a car that I could never part with! I have been offered a lot of money for my car, but the thought of someone else driving what I have put so much blood, sweat and tears into just makes upset! My mods include...
Hotshot CAI
HKS Power flow filter
JWT ECU
ACT Clutch
Borla polished exhaust
17deg Timming
EGR Disabled
Digital gauges for coolant temp and oil presure
Polished Valve cover
Powder coated engine bay
Grimmer Phillips STB and Short shifter
Tokico Struts
Eibach Pro Kit Springs
ST Sway bars
Energy Bushings
17x7 Wheels (not recieved yet...either from Racing Hart C2 or Konig)
215 40 17 Toyo T1s
Power antenna
Power Windows
Power Locks
Power Trunk release
NX2K center console
Carbon Fiber Dash Kit
Grant Carbon Fiber steering wheel
Momo shift knob
Painted front grill
Headlight and tail light police issue strobes
Various neon and strobes
Custom 3rd brake light
A Real BIG Stereo!!!
ETC...you get the idea;-)
The car now has 16k on it and gets trailered to events where people get to see my PRIDE and JOY!

Thanks...

'94, white, 85k mi., w/ everything; bought fall of'93 from Fremont Nissan.(previously had a base '93 w/c was the trade-in;i had crashed the'93 after going sideways on a deserted road on an old Navy base in Vallejo, CA). w/ the hot weather in No.VA, the idle won't stay put for some reason, and that makes me want to get rid of the car; BUT everytime i get behind the wheel the world is ok in my SE-R, bad idle and all. i don't know what it is about the classic, but i don't think i can give her up.

Bought mine new 04/05/91.

Found out it was the very car I saw at the Rochester Auto Show. I was sure I was going to get an Integra, but decided to drive some other cars. Five minutes into the test drive I knew I had to have her.

Well, sort of... I bought a black 94 SE-R new but was forced to sell it as part of a divorce settlement. It had 36,000 miles on it when I sold it in 1995. It was well loved. I sold it to a kid and his father from PA (I was in Maryland at the time) and often wonder what happened to that car.

In June I bought a red 93 SE-R that wasn't so well loved (eight previous owners) and have given it a permament home. It just turned 110K. All the mods are since my purchase plus alot of maintanance issues. I'm remarried now and this car is staying no matter what!
