Happy X-Trails to Nissan

Nissan's Euro-market "soft-roader," the X-Trail, will roll into Canadian showrooms later this year, but it's unclear whether the crossover/ute will ever make it to the U.S. Sharing its platform with the Altima sedan, the X-Trail is designed for suburban warriors who want something a bit more hip and rugged than a station wagon. It will hit Canada with a 2.4-liter powertrain offered in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. More than 400 changes were made to prepare X-Trail for Canadian roads - and winters - according to company sources. Among X-Trail's more attractive features are a flexible rear storage system, and a water- and scratch-resistant removable cargo floorboard. The X-Trail is meant to go up against the likes of the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4, a fast-growing segment in the Canadian market. It fits into the Nissan lineup below the more traditional Xterra SUV, which is being moved a bit upmarket. A similar opportunity exists in the United States, a senior Nissan official acknowledged to TheCarConnection. Speaking on background, he suggested a U.S. version "is not out of consideration - if not with this generation X-Trail, then the next."

Thats for Canada, never know what may be here in the US. Besides, what engine will it have in it in Canada? I always thought they came with the QR25 if they didnt have the VE, but that article says a 2.4L.
The article is wrong. it will have the QR25 just like the frontier and pathy.

check out the ny auto show in april, i'm sure the xterra replacement will debut there.
^^
Yup. Wherever the X-Trail is offered outside of Japan, it gets the QR25DE motor.

Sato down in mexico sayd he saw a vet powered xtrail now theres a grocery getter with some g0
We need people to wreck the VET powered ones so we can get the market flooded with used engines.

The Pathfinder has a V6, and the base Frontier motor is the KA24DE.

I would have to see it to believe it. From the information I have seen as of today, all X-trails (be it in N. America, Europe, Asia) outside of Japan have the QR25DE motor.

I have an easy answer Harris. This VET powered XTrail was in Aguascalientes City, Home of Nissan Mexicana's Factory. It had special demonstration plates, so this means it is not street legal. I am pretty sure they have a couple more and they're just doing some tests in their test circuit they have on the back of the factory, just like 10 years ago, when I saw a couple of GTi-R DET powered B13's with the demo plates. Back then, the Plant manager killed himself in an accident in one of these cars when speeding on a highway at over 250km/h and losing control and I bet that this was the reason we didn't get the turboed GSR2000 here.

I did not mean to say pathfinder, just frontier. This is the last year of production for the aging KA24 and VG33. The 2005 Frontier will have the QR25DE (RWD) or the VQ40DE (I think it's VQ, not sure though). The Pathfinder will have the 4 liter V6. The QR25 has as much horsepower as the current VG33, so it is a needed change. The new VQ40 will have 250+ hp and 275+ lb ft. Exact numbers have not been released yet. The Xterra is likely to be replaced by the xtrail, thought the name may not change. It will likely have the same two engines.
what is up :(

Canada is getting all the cool nissans now, and we are being left out, maybe i can import

Canada is supposed to get a Diesel in the next gen sentra/C-Note and they are supposed to get the CUBE

Bring it nissan, diesel cars are selling very well in the USA
VW sells ever single one they import and are bringing more every year
and Benz is bringing back the Diesel e-class
and Ford has a Diesel focus in the works to be launched arund 2007

the CUBE would be great to compete with the SCION's

I wouldn't mind driving a cube...

I even saw a review on some european site where they tested an awd cube. I bet something in the 1.8L-2.5L range would be put in the cube if it was imported.
