Official SR20DE dyno proven power thread

Ok guys here is a thread that will anwser most of if not all of your questions on popular bolt-ons for the SR20DE motor. Please try not to cloud this thread up with you should of done this or that. i did all of these on purpose with this specific inteniton of sharing my findings. if you have questions please dont hesitate to ask i will post them in the thread with an anwser. thanks for reading

First off this is a 1991 Sentra SER with roughly 169XXX miles. AC is still in and will be removed at a later date.

Modifacations in the thread include:
Aem Cold air intake
Ebay 2.5" header
Obx test pipe
Jim Wolf Technology S3 cams
JWT ecu tune
HKS Sport Exhaust
9lbs. Flywheel


Base line power

the 119 and 120hp pulls where in 4th
the 102 was in 4th with the ac on. i aways wondered what the Hp drop was with the ac on. now i know.

INTAKE
Here is the dyno with the AEM Cai installed. i used the my 119whp run as an overlay cause it doesnt have the dip the 120whp does and is more realisticly the accurate pull.

Most of you will laugh at the fact that i made almost 4whp over stock. but as you can see there is more to the gains then peak HP. and im sure that a few of you know that power band is more important then peak hp.

You can see in the graph that from 3300rpm to 5000rpms i am making more HP then on the stock pull. but from 5k rpms to 5.7k rpms i am making the same as stock. from 5.7k rpms to redline i am making much more then i was stock. in some parts around10-12whp more. also my peak hp is moved to almost 6.5krpms. about 300rpm later then stock. torque is almost not changed at all. this is a good thing and a bad thing but does not effect the feel of the car at all.

the over all feel of the car now is very smooth in the top end and feels much better. i can feel the car pull more but i am very aware that there is some mental aspect to that.

Exhaust

Here is the dyno with the hks exhaust and i must say i am very impressed with the findings. much better then i expected. in this its my base, Intake Installed, and intake and exhaust installed you can see the top end gained a very good amount of power as much as 20whp over stock. cant wait to get headers and see the gains. the exhaust is to quiet so im going to be installing a test pipe. well see if any gains are produced

JWT S3 CAMS, JWT ECU, AND TEST PIPE
Installed the JWT S3 cams and test pipe. i was very inpressed with the gains. the torque is unbeliveable. the intake exhaust run is the last dyno i had.Now the cam run is very impressive with the amount of torque it is making. you can also see that the line is much smoother then the blue run. this is due to a new cap , rotor and wires. the parts are not new but they are nissan where my car had cheap aftermarket set on them, so they are new to the car. the s3 cams with JWT ECU run is not bad at all raising the HP and TQ all through the power band. well some would take that flash as a waste of money but the car did make more power and idles much smoother now then it did with out it. the drivablity is also better with it.

HEADER
heres the dyno with a ebay header and a 2.5" outlet. The Blue Run is the header installed and the Red Run is the last run i did see above for more info on that run. the headers were a great complement to the whole setup i have going right now. you can see that every part of the rpm range has a gain, not one spot does not. the peak is only 7whp which is more then i was expecting. this doesnt exactly mean if you put just a header on it will provide this kind of HP i think with the cams intake ect they are a good compliment for it all.

FLYWHEEL

dyno with the flywheel only made 2whp and 2wtq at peak but like all the other mods its is through out the power band. the engine revs much smoother and faster. rev match is like breathing its super easy.

i installed my factory cat and looks like i lost alot of power through out. sucks but now i dont have any buzz in the exhaust anymore.

I'll be taking my car next month to the dyno again for newer mods. I wish I had the same torque numbers as you guys.

I have a question about dyno's. What does corrected dyno run uncorrected dyno run mean?
Can you guys school me on the air/fuel mixture graph? :)

the dyno programs correct for altitude, temp, humidity, ect... in different countrys and some areas have a set correction factor. in the USA we use SAE. uncorrected shows the run with no correction for the above. usally less horse power.

the air fuel graph on your car looks good. its right around 13:1. its lean just before 3500rpms but its to low to really see any significant gains. you could gain maybe 1-2whp with leaning out the top end but once a gain not really worth it. you might need to change your timing or do a tune up. the dip in the top end is not a good thing. from 6200-6800rpms. it should look more like your base line only taller. like this: this is my base and final

macidcrook are you dynoing pullies for the car and can you see what steppin up to a 3in cold air intake like pr or hs can gain. great work by the way
Me and G Spec performance are in the middle of some pulley testing. ill post that stuff when ihave the info. i would love to do more parts changing but i dont have the access to those parts. if some one was to donate them for a bit for research i would gladly put them on.

yeah if anybody wants to 'donate' parts to mee too i wouldn't mind...

seriously though, would it be hard to get 160 whp? what else would you need to do? it seems like you have done all the bolt-ons so i don't see how you could make 20 whp more when everything you've done has only amounted to 20 whp.

160 whp is definitely attainable with a DE... its been broken down a few times.

Decent Header
2.25-2.5" Full Exhaust
Aftermarket Camshaft
CAI/WAI
Pop Charger
Intake Thermal Spacer
W/P & Crank Pullies
Throw in some Timing
Low Humidity Dyno Day

That should be it on a stock ECU

SAFC to squeeze more ponies if necessary

Throw a Flywheel in the mix for kicks...

he has all of that minus the pullies, intake thermal spacer, SAFC. But he's got a JWT computer.

so you think those few mods and a low humidity day would give him 20whp more?

on a track only car he could upgrade the cams but not much more on a street car, maybe with S4's or S5's due to drive-ability issues.

Right?

My 1992 B13 SE-R Graph

I made 143.9whp and 130.3lbs/ft. of torque at 5800rpm. My torque band peaks out at 144lbs./ft. @ 5300 rpm. Is there an explanation for why this is? My mods:
CAI with HKS super Mega-flow, Hotshot Gen. 3, Magnaflow muffler, and timing advance. The ECU is stock. Mobil One was the lubricant and I had BP 93 Octane Gas. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

dudes those numbers are hard to believe for me, I've got and SR20DE highport red top engine eGT trim, i put the S3 and headers and all 2.25 free flow exhaust system and the difference from stock is very very small i think something is wrong or just those numbers are not correct i run the car with some advance timing and 100 octane fuel, the engine is about 20k miles on it :confused: :confused: :confused: i don't have dyno number but i think its no more than 130 horses on the wheels or may be less :confused:

10x a lot the car has very very simple ECU its not like the US spec, the engine stock is without anything ecological, there's no cat, EGR or something, i'll try to change the pump and injectors beacus my pump is from nissan micra/march k11

also i don't want to spam may be there's other place can someone recommend cam sprocket settings for S3 cams i mean retard or advance on EX/IN cams

just wondering if anyone had an idea i just baught my G/F a b13 with jdm sr20
Megan header, 2 1/4 full exhaust, exedy clutch and 9lb flywheel,CAI ........... anyone know a round about WHP it should lay down ????

N15 Nissan Pulsar. 108.3kw = 145.2hp atw. Keep in mind that this was a rolling road dyno, and dynos here in Australia read a little lower than the US variants.

Mods are: Pod filter, standard intake piping/resonator, JWT C2 cams, Supertech dual valve springs, Ti retainers, X-force extractors, 2 1/4 mandrel exhaust, hi flow cat, offset muffler, Fidanza flywheel and a PLMS daughterboard (aussie equivalent to Calum basic board)

136whp and 131lb-ft of torque.

This has 2 runs, one when the car was stock, virgin... no mods...

and then, when it was with this mods:
-Warm Air Intake with K&N Air Filter.
-Highport Intake Cam
-2" Cutout

This are al the mods it have...

Today I went over to Hi Tech Motorsport for a Dyno test & rolling road tune i.e. fuel pressure and ignition timing optimised. Yes the gear he uses is old, however my engine is old too.


Been here a total of 4 time now and each time I could not fault the readings. Then with the NPOC (G20 chassis) chaps DE’s with I/E/H made around 135 – 140whp the same over the UK for same tuned SR20DE’s


Engine mod list

MIJ 2.25'' stainless steel mandrel cat back
Edge Racing 2.5’' resonator decat
Tomei Poncams 260' at 0'0
ASP 4-2-1 header with 3’ downpipe
2 piece UR lightweight pulleys (ran out of time to fit the PAS)
FSE fpr set to 4bar
PiperX panel filter with cold air feed
2.5’ induction hard pipe kit
Magnecor KV85 HT leads
NGK Iridium spark plugs
Ignition timing at 19*
XTD prolite flywheel & stage 2 clutch


163whp @ 6400rpm & 180lb ft @ 5400rpm

not quite the 200bhp mark, its 196bhp @ 6400rpm with ignition timing set to 19* and fueling set to 4bar. It was 192bhp @ 17* ignition advance, however at 19 there gains everywhere.

I would expect that set up to get about 155 whp on a good day from what I've read.
If I went with JWT S4's and a JWT ECU tuned for S4's, what would I exect to get? 165 whp? and how would the torque curve look? I'm tired of searching!! ;)
