Is it a s13 or s14 put a ve head on that bitch and call it a day if it's a s13 I've got a ecu that will work but will need a diffrent chip as it's setup for turbo right now

 

Its a s13 sr20de motor.
Completely standard done about 150ks.
I just really like the response and the induction noise of a N/A motor so i want to keep it NA.

What options do i have OTHER than a VE head?
If i were to go VE head won't it need ve head conversion kit such as mazrworx one?
Seems quite expensive.

if you dont mind using an S13 ECU id use Nismotronic, the latest release will be full of awesome features.

 

Hey mate, NA stuff is expensive. A VE head is the ultimate in the SR world as far as good head flow from stock, some good results are to be had with a DE head. If you want to look at ITB's: http://www.efihardware.com/products/c19/SR20-Throttle-Body-Kits

Remember these need to be matched with a good porting job, valves and cams. Typically you then need valve springs to keep proper control of the valves and higher compression is also not a bad idea. Gspec has some new SR16VE N1 pistons

 

the real question is this a DD or a toy and what fuels are available where you live. if you have e85 or 93 octane or better you could do 12:1's, custom camshafts from web camshafts and some 50mm throttles. as far as the header(extractors) goes you want something equal length and somewhat longer primaries to keep exhaust pulses close together. im sorry to unload all that info at once.:biggthump also with na you dont have the convenience of a turbo to double or triple your displacement capabilities so as the old saying goes no replacement for displacement. if you're looking for something cheap first though and you want to stay with the DE head i'd go for some cams and a little bit of port work. it just so happens my brother projectsunydaze has a set of jwt s3's for sale.

@jdm92accorn. Im currently in NZ and we have 98 octane available nationwide. there are e85 available in some petrol stations but im not too keen on going e85. My friend has some BC stage 3 cams (272) that hes willing to sell to me for quite a good price. you reckon thats worth it?

@Vizor yeah N/A is real expensive... i just want to keep mine NA and get slightly more power out of it. VE head is something ill think about if i win the lotto maybe =D

@unijabnx2000 Umm i've actually never heard of nismotronic before.. dont even think theres a tuner for them here in NZ lol. Common aftermarket ecus available in nz are Link g4, megasquirt, haltech... etc nismotronics are just chip tunes im assuming?

Btw does anyone have a proper diagram of how to remove completely remove EGR and carbon canister from a 180sx? Carbon canister seems pretty straight forward but EGR is slightly confusing. If anyone can help me out that'd be great.

id run megasquirt plug-n-play. brian crower cams are a good start but they are more boost oriented. the nismotronics RT is similar to hondata daughter board units. but for the money the megasquirt is more capable. we're actually planning to adapt my brothers 20ve over to use hondata. its just hard to beat the capabilities for the price here in the US. another thing you should look into is pick up a used cylinder head, save some money and get it ported. as far as the pump gas available, i'd go 12:1 on a DE on E85. E85 runs at a much cooler temp which allows for more aggressive ingnition table which is what's going to make the real power.

Ditched the idea of itbs.. way too expensive.
Still keen to build a good N/A motor.
Since then my cars had suspension, brakes, gearbox work done to it.
Its not running r33 front calipers with 32gtr rears, also 6speed s15 gearbox, removed egr and carbon canister lines in the engine bay, raised the ignition timing to 19degrees.

Trying to source a s13 sr20de motor to start building up.

Planning to get some custom exhaust made up. 2.5 inch would be a good size right?
Any recomendation on headers?

 

I believe the general pipe size for NA 4cyl is 2.25 i know on the Lancer ralliart I owned you would lose power with anything above 2.25 piping.

 

Right, time for some updates.

Since the previous post, not much has been done to the car other than general maintenance.

I have sourced another S13 Sr20de for super cheap to start off my engine build.
Also scored a S14 Sr20de engine with some goodies from my mate for cheap.
It came with smaller pulleys, cometic headgasket with comp ratio around 10.5-11.1, Franklin St3 cams 11mm lift 257deg on both intake/exhaust also some custom made 4-1 headers. IT also came with some lightweight flywheel and really good clutch setup suited for a N/A build which is a bonus

Thinking of just bolting these onto the new engine as i think the headgaskets gone on the s14 engine and the engines a dud.

What do you guys reckon on the specs? I've been looking around and the cams don't seem to be the best spec for a N/A build, seems like the specs are more suited for a boosted engine however its free for me to use although i could sell them and buy some diffrent cams if necersary.

Let me know what you guys think of the parts and whether it'll be any good for the build. It will be 80% street car, 10% drift car and 10% track car so i'm just keen to get some more power out of the engine without going turbo

The build is still using student budget so no VE head or ridiculous race spec parts.
