I have a Hotshot Gen 4 header and I would like to plug up my egr system. Does anyone know what size plug is needed to plug the header? Hotshot hasn't responded to my numerous inquiries so hopefully someone knows. Thanks

that is the correct size, aren't these guys great. And no, you won't lose power, you just don't gain a lot, bt it sa smoother running engine in my experience. Plug the vacuum line that comes out of the EGR valve and it will stay closed all the time, the only thing to look for is if it is stuck slightly open due to carbon buildup, then all you have to do is clean it out with carb clean. I have no EGR due to my AEBS headerand the car runs great.

So answer me this , what is the purpose of the EGR system .. Once you figure it out , you will not want to remove it !!!! And no , you wont loose power , you will just ping your motor to death , or retard the timing , which means less power ....

EGR is shut off at WOT and such and as you have more exhaust pressure it decreases the egr and less exhaust manifold pressure means an increase in EGR as it sends exhaust gases into the intake stream of air. In non OBDII cars like my 91 sentra and 93 nx2000 it is perfectly safe to disconnect the EGR system. I run an AEBS header in my 91 se-r with no problems. You just have to remember to plug the vacuum line coming off the EGR valve so it remains closed all the time so no exhaust gases get into the intake manifold.

How could it hurt the motor? It just lets hot exhaust air into your intake manifold which definitely doesn't sound good to me. The colder the air the better. I was under the impression that all it does it let exhaust air in to reduce emissions. I have an obd-II car and I have had the intake manifold blocked off for months and have noticed no downsides other than my car seems to run a little smoother like when all cars do when they are cold. How could it ping your motor to death?

Hmmm. I've been trying to figure out whether I should clean out the EGR or just plug it.:( Since I have a 95 G20, I'm assuming that I have the OBDII. So that being the case, what would happen if I just plug the EGR instead of going through the hassle to clean it? Would that help or hurt?

The OBDII thing is something I heard from someone else on the se-r.net pages, I personally think that EGR can be eliminated from all vehicles without harm as long as it is properly disconnected so that there aren't any harsh effects like air leaking into the intake through the egr which would be unmetered.

The EGR sysem basicly is used to reduce combustion temperatures reducing NOX emissions , it opens the EGR valve under part throttle to let intake vacuum to suck exhaust into the cylinder , this reduces combustion temps , and what causes predetonation .... high combustion temps .... My 10.5:1 KA24DE started pinging after I got it all done , I found the EGR vacuum switch was bad , fixed it and now it never pings !!!!!

AIR .... Air injection DOES NOT just dilute the air so it will pass , it mixes air into the exhaust just before the cat. converter so the cat can burn the unburnt fuel easier ...... ( yea yea I know you dont have a cat either .... Well I wont even get into that ...)

Doubt me if you want , but my ASE Master certification , 10+ years as a Japanese import Tech. and my Associates Degree in auto. tech. should mean I should know a little about what I am talking about ..... I am sooo tired of hearing about how you have to remove the emission stuff to make power , its all old '80's talk .......

Well, I'm certainly not going to doubt or question you. It's just that I may have the EGR problem but I'm not really sure. My G20 seems to bog down(hesitate) whenever I floor it. It's as if it's I'm not even pressing the gas at all. :( I was going to do the EGR test soon(whenever it stops raining here in San Antonio:mad: ) and see what happens.
But thanks for explaining what exactly the EGR system does and how it affects engine performance. :D

Your problem doesnt sound like an EGR problem ... The only time you will feel a real problem with the EGR is if it were stuck open , then your car wouldnt idle ....But under acceleration you really cant feel the difference between if it is working or not .....

O I C. No problem. Thanks anyway.;)
