are the camshafts in RWD and FWD sr20dets interchangable and identical?

They are different. I'm almost positive that you can use the FWD DET cams on the RWD DET but you can't use the RWD DET on the FWD DET. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the RWD cams are a bit longer, plus they don't have the timing notch for the SR distributor for the FWD.

ive herd the fwd and the s13 cams are the same. the s13 cam just has a longer dowel on the end of one of them. if you grind the dowel down, you can use it in you FWD sr

I don't know about the length or the dowel. I KNOW you can use FWD cams in a RWD car - there are a number of 240 guys using JWT cams in their 240s. However, NONE of the RWD cams have the distributor notch, so you're out of luck to go that way with the exhaust cam, though I seem to remember Sakerocket1 using a RWD intake cam (HKS cam or something).

Ok here we go.

You can use FWD cams in a RWD.

You can only use the RWD intake cam in the FWD because the RWD exhaust cam does not come with the notch for the distributer.

This info above is for S13 RWD and 91-99 SR20DE FWD cars.
