I new to the SR20 world so can any one let me know what they think is the best and safest set up on a BB to make 550-600HP? And what has to be done to the tranny so it will last?

The tranny will not last at those power levels.

See The Technical Library on the P11/B15 or the Spec V 6-speed swap. Both are fully documented. Either of those trannies should do much, much, better at that level of horsepower. Unless you have the money for a PAR gearbox, which is stupid expensive.

What is your budget? What is the intended usage for the vehicle? What is your skill/mechanical knowledge level? Will you be doing this build by yourself or with knowledgable help? Do you have access to a shop, lift, tools? Suspension upgrades? Brakes? You'll need both of those upgraded unless this is a pure drag-strip queen. Even then, you'll need the suspension revised and fortified to put the power down. Not to mention some mean-ass slicks. You're just gonna spin regular super-sticky street tires all the way through about third gear.

You only need about half that power to have a street-beast with an incredible horsepower to weight ratio. Is there some reason you need Viper power in a Sentra? Shooting for 10's in the quarter?

Man that is a bit overbored. Just do some eagle rods or something with some low cr forged pistons and you can do 600whp safely if you keep the stock 86mm bore. Get a gt35r or an sc61 and some 850cc injectors and a BIG maf. The Z32 maf only flows 550hp.

But you will need a really strong tranny.

That all depends on suspension, tires, driver. A 400whp se-r will be an 11sec street monster all day, any more than that you're gonna be breaking parts more often than not. How old are you,is this your first turbo car?

$10 says you think your the best driver around right? i drive turbo cars all day long. i work at a subaru dealership. dosent mean i can control a 500whp car. you will build this car and you will crash it. start with a simple t-28 setup. and progress from there.

They're just telling you from experience. Driving your friends turbo car a few times is nothing compared to building, driving, and mainting a 500whp se-r. The tourque steer can send you into on coming traffic in a split second, you can spend a month doing you swap, spend $10k get everything just right...Then something breaks that you never expected and ruins all the work you just did. Also be sure you are very mechanically inclined, meaning you can do your own swap, replace a clutch, tranny etc, and get used to buying axels!!

torque steer, just keep on the gas, she'll straighten up;)

My best time is 12.7@117mph. I dynoed at 338whp@11psi. With a better 60ft time and a pound of boost more its easily a 11second car. 500hp would be a little crazy and alot of $$. Keep it simple turbo the damn DE:biggthump

I blew one $400 de but it was totally avoidable. The de is a very strong and reliable turbo motor. I ran for almost 2 years on more boost then what i dynoed at with no problems. With close to 50 passes down the track and just destroying any car that came my way. If i blow one more i will prob go det so i can really turn the boost up, id like to feel 400+ on the street;)

Just like they all said, start small. even ive been around and driven many turbod cars but i can imagine what 500whp would be in my car. It definetely would be pointless on the street. Im at the 250whp range or so and im telling you know even at that which is on a t25 at 8psi torque steers like crazy, When im on the gas the car wants to pull mad into one direction. Ive gotten used to it and expect it so i dont even feel it anymore. Im going to up the boost to 16psi and really see what i can make, im hoping in the 285-290whp range after im done tuning it. That right there is will be enough for a 115mph trap speed and with slicks and a good launch run a 12.0 maybe faster. Ive already cut a 13.0 on skinny street tires. So yeah. And trust me even at the hp level im at i have to expect things to break, Im already on my 2nd trans in 5k miles due to a shredded gearset.

You better be prepared to do all the necessary things to handle that power as a daily. by that i mean a good tranny. Start small and get used to it. There are not many people that just went big for a first time high hp turbo car and is making over 350whp. Most started with a t25 or t28 and worked their way up as experience and boredome kicked in. haha
